Neonatal Calf Diarrhea Panel
This multiplex qPCR panel detects the five most common enteric pathogens implicated in calf scours:
- Rotavirus – a leading viral cause of diarrhea in calves under 3 weeks of age, often resulting in rapid dehydration.
- Coronavirus – affects both the small and large intestine, causing watery diarrhea and systemic weakness.
- Cryptosporidium parvum – a protozoan parasite that causes severe, sometimes persistent diarrhea, and is zoonotic.
- Escherichia coli (ETEC) – especially strains producing the K99 (F5) fimbrial antigen, a common cause of early-onset diarrhea in neonatal calves.
- Salmonella spp. – including S. Dublin and S. Typhimurium , which can cause severe systemic illness and death.
qPCR offers high sensitivity and specificity for early pathogen detection in fecal samples. This panel is ideal for outbreak investigation, reducing morbidity through rapid diagnosis and targeted treatment.
