Bovine Mastitis Panel
This qPCR panel is designed to rapidly detect the DNA of key bacterial pathogens responsible for clinical and subclinical mastitis in dairy cattle, directly from milk samples:
- Staphylococcus aureus – a contagious mastitis pathogen known for causing chronic infections and elevated somatic cell counts.
- Streptococcus agalactiae – a highly contagious organism that can persist in the udder and bulk tank, often eradicated with proper control programs.
- Streptococcus uberis – an environmental pathogen frequently associated with poor hygiene or pasture exposure.
- Mycoplasma bovis – a cause of severe, untreatable mastitis, often leading to culling due to its resistance to common antibiotics and ability to spread within herds.
qPCR testing offers faster and more accurate results than culture, especially when samples are collected post-treatment or in herds with prior antimicrobial exposure. Results can guide treatment, management decisions, and culling strategies.
