Porcine Respiratory Disease Panel (Virus)
Swine Respiratory Virus Panel (qPCR)
This comprehensive qPCR panel detects the three most important viral agents involved in respiratory disease outbreaks in pigs, allowing rapid differentiation and early intervention.
1. PRRSV-1 (Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus – European Strain)
A highly prevalent arterivirus responsible for both respiratory and reproductive failure. In young pigs, PRRSV-1 causes interstitial pneumonia, fever, and immunosuppression, often predisposing to secondary bacterial infections. The panel includes detection of emerging virulent strains, including Rosalia.
2. Swine Influenza Virus (SIV)
A type A Orthomyxovirus, Swine Influenza causes sudden outbreaks of coughing, fever, and lethargy. It is highly transmissible and zoonotic in some variants. qPCR detects the viral RNA from nasal swabs or lung tissue, allowing confirmation of infection in both clinical and subclinical animals.
3. Suid herpesvirus 1 (Aujeszky’s Disease Virus / Pseudorabies Virus)
A notifiable alphaherpesvirus, Suid herpesvirus 1 causes severe neurological and respiratory disease in piglets and reproductive failure in adults. It is also fatal in other species(e.g., dogs, cattle) and has major implications for trade and biosecurity. qPCR detects viral DNA from nasal swabs, tonsils, or brain tissue.
Sample types:
- Nasal/tracheal swabs, lung tissue, oral fluids, or tonsillar scrapings
qPCR benefits:
- Rapid differentiation between clinically similar viral diseases
- Supports outbreak containment, vaccination planning, and eradication programs
- Essential for herds with respiratory issues, particularly in nursery and grower units
This panel offers fast, accurate diagnosis of major swine viral pathogens, supporting evidence-based decision-making for respiratory disease management and control.
